Girly Embellished Sneakers
It is always a shame to get ride of clothes once my boys have out grown them. On occasion, I come access an item or two that I can see my daughter wanting to wear. We’ve had a pair of sneakers both of my sons never wore. My husband suggested we keep them for our daughter. This became a great DIY challenge for me. How could I make these sneakers suitable for my girly daughter? I came up with an idea to turn them into Girly Embellished Sneakers. I know my daughter, she loves anything shinny or with unicorns. If I added those elements to the sneakers, I knew she would love them!
Girly Embellished Sneakers Supplies:
- Sneakers
- Sparkly Shoe Laces
- Unicorn patches (2)
- Rhinestone Stickers
- Fabric Glue
How I put together the Girly Embellished Sneakers
Step 1
I purchased rhinestone stickers and fabric glue from my local dollar store. I simply applied small dots of the fabric glue to the rhinestones and placed them firmly on the sneaker. It was very easy to place the rhinestones on the sneakers, because the sticker adhesive helped hold the stones in place while the fabric glue dried.
Step 2
Next, I placed the patches on the sneakers. The placement of the patches was very important. If placed in the wrong position, it could make or break this DIY. I moved the patches around on the sneakers, until I found the perfect positions.
Step 4
Once the placement of the patches was figured out, it was time to glue. I placed dots of the fabric glue onto each patch making sure to not miss any edges. Next, I placed the patches on the sneakers and pressed firmly. I added masking tape over the tops of each patch and pressed down around the edges. The masking tape was used to make sure that the patches stayed down while drying. Then I left them overnight to dry.
Step 5
Once the glue had completely dried, I carefully removed the tape from each sneaker. To make sure I didn’t pull up the patches, I held each patch down as I pulled the tape up slowly. Next, I replaced the shoelaces of each sneaker with cute pink sparkly ones.
After that, it was time for the big reveal! I showed them to my daughter, and the Girly Embellished Sneakers were a hit!
Some Notes:
In hindsight, I would definitely use a stronger glue. The rhinestones and the patches were starting to come up after only one school day with my daughter. She really loves here shoes and wants to wear as soon as possible, so I am going to glue them down again with a stronger glue.
